Vania Gonçalves (b.1978) is a ceramic artist who lives and works in Lisbon. She graduated in dentistry, which she practised for 13 years in London, but soon realized her desire to do something artistic. After attending several experimental ceramics workshops in London, and returning to Portugal, she attended the Ceramics course at Ar.Co. Art School (Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual) in Lisbon.

In Vania Gonçalves’s sculptural objects, introspection unfolds through a captivating interplay of glaze layering, inviting unexpected reactions that result in intriguing surfaces. With a meticulous touch, she sculpts each piece to accentuate its curves, twists, and folds, infusing them with a sense of fluidity and movement.

Each piece becomes a journey, where the fusion of form and serendipitous reactions challenges both the artist and the viewer to embrace the beauty found in the unforeseen and connect with their own introspective journey, inviting a dialogue between the abstract and the personal.

Vania´s work has been exhibited in Portugal, Spain, the UK, and the UAE. She is represented by Double J Collective Gallery and took part in the Dubai Design Design Week 2023.
